Handmade wooden butter dish designed for Stornish by Jonathan Maker
Handmade from waste offcuts of bamboo, this butter box is designed to both store your butter in the cupboard & as a server on your table. Sized to take a standard UK block of butter, internally it measures 100 x 55 x 70 mm. The shape and design of this butter box is uniquely inspired by an old nautical tale, where sailors used square wooden plates with raised edges – called fiddles. Food was often the source of disquiet amongst the crew and if your plate overflowed you were suspected of bribing the cook or ‘On the Fiddle’. You can read more about the story behind the name in our Journal.
